When Enda Bolger’s Lorry arrives at the races the ‘Born To Run’ line is visible below the trainers name owing to his connection to singer Bruce Springsteen – told below in his own words
“I bought an old car back in the early ’80s and it had a radio/cassette player like most at the time, but the radio was broken and stuck in the cassette was Bruce’s album The River.
“So everywhere I went The River was playing as soon as I turned the car on. I was working for Billy Boyers in Sligo so it was a long drive home every day. It ended up that no-one would travel with me!
“I became a fan and followed him around the world. Then one night we got an introduction in the Beacon Theatre in New York and hit it off straight away. He wanted me to meet Patti because she was big into horses and it’s meant we’ve all become good friends.”
In 2014 Enda was guest of the Springsteens at the R.D.S. to watch their daughter, Jessica, jump a double clear round to win the Aga Khan Trophy for the USA; a day he will always treasure.
Many of his horses have been named after songs or associates of Springsteen over the years including dual Galway Plate runner up Lucky Town and Grade 1 winner Gilgamboa both falling under each category.
